Toddler

18 months to 3 years

Toddlers learn through their senses and by moving freely in the environment. Salem Montessori School provides these opportunities for independence, a sense of order, cooperative social interaction, language, and motor skills. Songs, stories, simple educational materials, a gentle pace, and a deep respect for each child ensure that your toddler will truly love their school environment and, from that, develop a deep and long-lasting love for learning as they prepare for the primary classroom.

Salem Montessori School’s Toddler environment is designed for children from 18 months to 3 years, with an emphasis on building self-confidence and fostering the natural curiosity that toddlers possess. Trained teachers foster a warm, nurturing, loving environment and work toward easing the transition between home and “school”. The children learn to respect each others’ work, use appropriate words and actions to express their emotions and needs, and are introduced to the concept of peer teaching as the older children help the younger learn the daily routine and activities. In addition, we work cooperatively with the child and family in teaching toilet learning skills.
